Single Answer (SA)
How to use single-answer questions — display format, available settings, image selection variant, and common use cases.
Single Answer (SA) lets the respondent pick exactly one option from a predefined list. It is the most basic and most common question type.
When to use it
- Demographics (gender, age bracket, region)
- Single-choice opinions or attitudes (agree / disagree, satisfaction)
- Single behavior selection
- Purchase intent
Display
On the response screen, options are shown as radio buttons in a vertical or horizontal layout. Attach an image to each option and the question switches to the image-selection variant (IMG_SEL).
Available settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Option text | Label shown for each option |
| Image attachment | Turns the question into an image selector |
| "Other" free-text option | Shows a text input when "Other" is selected |
| Option randomization | Randomize the display order per respondent (with pinning) |
| Exclusive options | For example, selecting "None of the above" disables the rest |
| Required | Force an answer before proceeding |

Image options (IMG_SEL)
Attaching an image to each option automatically upgrades the question to the image selection variant IMG_SEL(SA). This is perfect for product or logo preference studies and visual concept testing.
Works with section randomization and pagination
- Combine with question randomization inside a section
- With pagination, SA questions remain self-contained on a single page
