Upgrade & Downgrade

How to change plans via Stripe Checkout, and when upgrades and downgrades take effect.

You can change plans from the /settings/billing page. Payment is handled by Stripe Checkout, which keeps card details safely on Stripe's side.

Plan change flow

  1. Open Billing settings (/settings/billing) from the side menu
  2. The current plan and available plans are listed
  3. Click Change on the plan you want
  4. Stripe Checkout opens — enter your card details and complete payment
  5. Back in kicue, the new plan is reflected immediately

When changes take effect

  • Upgrades: effective immediately. You can use the higher plan's features and limits from that moment. The price difference is automatically prorated
  • Downgrades: take effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep the current plan's features until then

Downgrade restrictions

To downgrade, your existing project and member count must fit within the target plan's limits.

  • Example: Going from Business (200 concurrent projects) → Standard (20 concurrent projects) requires reducing to 20 or fewer projects first
  • If limits are exceeded, an error is shown and the downgrade is blocked until you resolve the conflict

Returning to the Free plan

  • You can downgrade from a paid plan back to Free
  • It is treated like any other downgrade: effective at the end of the current billing period
  • Make sure your projects and members fit within Free plan limits before the change takes effect

Customer Portal

You can also manage plan changes, cancellation, and billing history directly through Stripe's Customer Portal. A link to open the portal is available on the billing settings page.
